Former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield joined EWTN News Nightly on August 3, 2026 to deliver a message that more Americans need to hear: Alzheimer's disease is no longer an untreatable diagnosis. In a wide-ranging interview, Dr. Redfield outlined the recent advances in early detection and treatment that are changing what it means to receive an Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Dr. Redfield served as the 18th Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2018 to 2021 and has spent his post-CDC years returning to clinical medicine, working closely with patients suffering from long COVID and COVID vaccine injury — work that deepened his understanding of cognitive dysfunction and drew him further into the fight against Alzheimer's.

Dr. Redfield made a direct call for all Americans over 50 to receive a blood test for preclinical Alzheimer's, a recommendation he said he has already brought to both Secretary Kennedy and CMS. He was emphatic that cognitive health needs to be treated the same way we approach heart disease and other chronic conditions — as a routine part of the annual physical exam.
